Are you kidding me?

From MSNBC.com:

A discussion about how evolution should be taught in Kansas' public schools degenerated Wednesday into personal attacks among State Board of Education members.

. . .

Board member Bill Wagnon, of Topeka, told the three conservatives they had become "dupes" of intelligent design advocates and said their proposal was based "on absolute and total fraud."

Umm, hello? You're in charge of the entire statewide public school system, and this is how you treat each other? Great example to set for the children.

  • Dude, it's Kansas. Basically, the only way people can get anything done is to make personal attacks. The gay marriage ban sparked a very nasty letter-to-the-editor feud that lasted nearly two weeks, and the Presidential campaign feud lasted until well past the elections, with various members of the community calling each other idiots, morons, left-wing liberal loonies (yes, that's real!), and brainwashed Republicans. So it's really no surprise the trend carries into the state school board. For that matter, look at the USD 383 school board...Nancy Knopp has a tendency to beat a dead horse until the rest of the board wants to strangle her, Walt Pesaresi is a bigoted jackass who has insulted women and teachers in general, and the others aren't much better. The board is clearly divided into two factions, and they like to sit and argue for hours without getting any actual work done. Personal insults are not unheard of, and certainly nothing new. It's when they start insulting people's mothers that it's gotten out of hand.
